CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Advocates for rooftop solar installations say a bill that passed the Nevada Legislature this spring may not have settled a dispute they're having with NV Energy after all.
The Alliance for Solar Choice is asking the Nevada Public Utilities Commission to rule that the utility must continue buying back energy from rooftop solar installations if a state cap on the so-called "net metering" process is reached earlier than anticipated.
The bill called for the PUC to set up new rules and rates for net metering that would replace a 3 percent statewide cap. But the alliance says new information from the utility indicates the cap will be reached this summer, well before the new rules and rates are in place.
The alliance wants a decision from the PUC this month.
