Nevada Names New Insurance Commissioner After Resignation

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — There's a new boss at the Nevada Division of Insurance.

State officials announced Tuesday that longtime state employee Amy Parks will serve as acting insurance commissioner. The promotion comes after Scott J. Kipper resigned from the post effective last week after serving for five years.

Agency officials didn't give a specific reason for Kipper's resignation.

Parks is an attorney and has served as chief insurance counsel and hearing officer since 2009. She held other high-level posts in the division since 2004, and has previously served as acting commissioner.

The Division of Insurance is responsible for regulating Nevada's $12 billion insurance industry. It also played a major role in implementing the Affordable Care Act.
