Mosquitoes Lead To Laughlin To Try Reducing Standing Water

LAUGHLIN, Nev. (AP) — Officials in Laughlin are asking residents to check for any standing water around their homes to prevent mosquitoes from breeding.

KSNV-TV in Las Vegas reported Sunday the Southern Nevada Health District is recommending that residents in the Laughlin area examine their homes for anything that could fuel mosquito breeding.

Mosquitoes can spread diseases such as West Nile Virus.

Several mosquitoes testing positive for West Nile have been reported in Clark County.

But no human cases have been found so far.

Experts say standing or stagnant water is an ideal breeding ground for mosquitoes. Standing water can be found in cans, jars, planters, tires and other objects sitting outside.

They say a mosquito can lay eggs that will produce hundreds of larvae within seven to 10 days.
