Flash Floods Close Roads For The 3rd Day In A Row In Northern Nevada

RENO, Nev. (AP) — Flash flooding again closed roads and highways along the Sierra's eastern front on Thursday as thunderstorms dumped heavy rain from north of Reno to south of Carson City for the third day in a row.

No injuries were reported but multiple roads were closed for several hours Thursday afternoon near Minden, where Douglas County officials declared a natural disaster on Wednesday when at least 140 homes reported some flood damage.

Part of a main thoroughfare in northeast Sparks also was closed for an hour Thursday afternoon.

The National Weather Service says "torrential" rain caused flooding on U.S. Highway 50 in Churchill County west of Middlegate, and several nearby state highways.

Service meteorologists say flooding remains a possibility into Friday, but should be less widespread because the soils are more saturated.
