DMV Camera, Scanner Systems Back Up After Electrical Problem

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles outage has been resolved following an electrical problem at a Las Vegas facility.

DMV Spokesman David Fierro said the East Sahara location in Las Vegas was evacuated about 4:30 p.m. Thursday after a blow out with a NV Energy transformer.

The incident caused a statewide outage for the cameras and scanners systems used for identification cards and driver's licenses.

Those already in line Thursday were given tickets to come back without another wait to complete their ID process.

The transformer and systems were repaired hours later. No damage estimates were available.

Fierro said it's not unusual to have electrical problems after a monsoon weather pattern like the one that hit Las Vegas this week.
