CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada officials have approved tax breaks for seven aviation industry companies after the Legislature passed a bill clearing the way for the incentives.
The board of the Governor's Office of Economic Development approved sales and property tax breaks Thursday in Carson City. The package is worth $35 million over 20 years.
The abatements were authorized through AB161, a bill sponsored by Democratic Assemblywoman Irene Bustamante Adams.
The measure brought Nevada in line with 45 other states that offer breaks or exemptions for aviation businesses such as repair shops. Bill proponents said plane owners often fly to neighboring states to get expensive repairs for less.
Companies that received the abatements had high praise for the bill, saying it will allow them to hire more employees and attract more business from out-of-state.
