CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada Assembly Speaker John Hambrick says his personal email account was temporarily hacked but is fixing the problem.
The Republican Assemblyman said that his email account was maliciously taken over on Thursday and fired off an email claiming that he was stranded in Ukraine and needed financial help.
Hambrick said that he didn't send the email and spent most of the day resetting passwords and trying to change his home phone number. He said that nearly a dozen people have called to check on him, but didn't believe anyone had accidentally wired money to the hacker.
Hambrick said he didn't believe any other of his online accounts were hacked.
The Las Vegas Assemblyman was first elected in 2008 and served as Speaker during the last legislative session.
