RENO, Nev. (AP) — State officials will be testing a pilot program in southern Nevada to help reduce wrong-way crashes on the state's highways.

KRNV-TV reports that the announcement comes as Nevada Highway Patrol is still investigating a wrong-way crash that killed one person in Washoe Valley on Sunday. It's the second fatal wrong-way crash in northern Nevada within the last few weeks.

The Nevada Department of Transportation's Meg Ragonese says the agency will alter the signage for the state freeway on-ramps by lowering it for better visibility and adding radar detection.

If the radar detects a vehicle entering the ramp in the wrong direction, it will activate warning lights on the sign to get the driver's attention. It will also notify law enforcement.

The pilot program is expected to begin within the next year.
