Boxing Match Boosts Nevada Casino Winnings Above $1 billion

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The real winner of the much-hyped boxing matchup between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao may have been Nevada casinos who saw their slot machine and table game fortunes rise by more than $1 billion in a busy May.

The Nevada Gaming Control Board released monthly figures Friday morning showing the state's casinos kept more than $1 billion of all the money gambled last month, a 3.3 percent year-over-year increase, despite the Riviera Hotel and Casino closing at the beginning of May.

Las Vegas Strip casinos won $601.2 million, up 1.4 percent compared to a year prior.
