CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A state board has approved a pilot program that would extend interest-free loans to Nevada state workers to help them retrofit their homes to save energy.
Nevada's Board of Examiners approved a contract Tuesday that would create a pilot program allowing full-time state employees to receive loans for energy-efficient home upgrades.
Under the contract, state employees can apply for an interest-free loan of $6,000 to spend on energy-saving upgrades like floor insulation, less-drafty windows and energy-efficient refrigerators. State workers who are combat veterans can apply for an $8,000 loan.

The program is expected to reach around 300 to 400 state worker homes, and will be available in December.
