Union, Business Groups Back Collective Bargaining Changes

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Business groups and union leaders say they support a Republican-backed bill that overhauls several facets of collective bargaining law.

Republican Sen. Michael Roberson presented SB241 to the Assembly Commerce and Labor Committee on Monday.

The measure would make a number of changes to the collective bargaining process between governments and employees, such as excluding school administrators who make more than $120,000 from joining an employee union.

It would also give school superintendents a way to remove principals for continual poor school performance and would speed up hearings with arbitrators over labor disputes.

Several union and business lobbyists testified in favor of the bill and said it was a reasonable measure that would help promote accountability.

The bill passed out of the Senate on a 15-4 vote in April.
