Owners: Major Tahoe Resort Expansion On Hold due to Lawsuit

HOMEWOOD, Calif. (AP) — The owners of the Homewood Mountain Resort on Lake Tahoe's west shore say their major expansion plans are on hold again due to ongoing litigation.

JMA Ventures Chairman Art Chapman told the Sierra Sun newspaper of Truckee that it's next to impossible to secure financing as long as the litigation remains unresolved.

Last year, the company settled a lawsuit with Earthjustice, representing the Sierra Club and Friends of the West Shore.

But a separate suit filed in 2011 against the company by the California Clean Energy Committee based in Davis is still pending before the 3rd District Court of Appeal in Sacramento.

Chapman says he's hopeful the environmental nonprofit's appeal of a Placer County Superior Court ruling in favor of his company will be decided so the expansion project can begin in May 2016.
