Nevada Lawmakers Attempt To Cut Wait Times At DMV

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — State lawmakers haven taken action in order to reduce long lines and wait times at the Department of Motor Vehicles.

The Nevada Appeal reports that the legislature Wednesday agreed to add nearly 60 positions including 54 technicians to man service windows and five supervisors to oversee them.

The joint Ways and Means/Senate Finance subcommittee has not agreed on the DMV's request for 16 additional staff positions due to the high turnover rate in those positions, which can be up to 25 percent in some offices.

Assemblywoman Maggie Carlton, D-Las Vegas, says the department needs the extra positions to fill vacancies.

Sen. Pete Goicoechea, R-Eureka says the DMV must fill its regular positions first.

The issue will be taken up again at a Saturday hearing.
