Nevada Governor's Revised Tax Plan Clears Assembly Hurdle

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval's tax plan is one step closer to becoming law after clearing another legislative hurdle.

Members of the Assembly Ways and Means Committee voted to amend and pass AB464 on an 11-4 vote on Thursday. The bill now moves to the Assembly floor.

The hybrid "Nevada Revenue Plan" raises the business license fee and ups the rate of the existing modified business tax, as proposed by Assembly Republican leaders.

The amended bill also adopts elements of an earlier Sandoval proposal that taxes businesses on gross revenue and industry type.

The measure is part of Sandoval's plan to raise and extend more than a billion dollars in new and extended taxes, primarily to increase K-12 education funding.
