Las Vegas Chamber Gives Conditional Support to Sandoval Tax Plan

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — The Las Vegas Metro Chamber of Commerce is offering conditional and temporary support of Gov. Brian Sandoval's revised tax proposal after staying neutral on a plan for most of the legislative session.

Representatives from the major business group testified Monday, during a second hearing for Sandoval's plan before a joint budget committee.

The hybrid "Nevada Revenue Plan" raises the business license fee and ups the rate of the existing modified business tax, as proposed by Assembly Republican leaders.

The bill also adopts elements of an earlier Sandoval proposal that taxes businesses on gross revenue and industry type.

Representatives from banking, mining, telecommunications and NV Energy voiced support for the bill. Chamber representatives said they could tolerate the plan temporarily if Nevada moves toward a sales tax on services.
