Collective Bargaining Bill Considered By NV Assembly Panel

CARSON CITY (AP) — A legislative budget committee is considering an amended version of a collective bargaining overhaul bill that labor groups dubbed "union Armageddon."

The Assembly Ways and Means Committee held a hearing Tuesday on AB182, which is sponsored by Republican Assemblyman Randy Kirner.

The bill would prohibit certain administrators and supervisory employees from collective bargaining, and would allow public employees to leave a union at any time, not just during a certain window of time.

Unions opposed the bill, saying it would erode the appeal of public sector work. They also said other measures working their way through the Legislature are addressing collective bargaining reform.

Kirner said much of the bill has been removed, and he didn't understand why there was so much resistance.

The committee didn't vote on the bill Tuesday.
