LAS VEGAS (AP) — The No. 2 administrator at the coroner's office in Las Vegas is being named to the top spot.

Clark County Manager Don Burnette is naming Assistant Coroner John Fudenberg to replace retiring Coroner Michael Murphy later this month.

The County Commission will consider the move April 21.

Fudenberg has been in public service for 26 years, and assistant coroner since July 2003.

He previously worked in the deputy city marshal's office in Las Vegas.

Burnette says no one is more qualified to lead the county coroner and medical examiner's office.

The office has 72 employees and a budget of $5.5 million.

It investigates deaths, identifies the deceased, performs autopsies, makes findings and notifies families.
