CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A Clark County grand jury has indicted a former Democratic Nevada Assembly candidate on a charge of lying on a residency form.
Attorney General Adam Laxalt announced Wednesday that 36-year-old Las Vegas resident Meghan Anne Smith was indicted on a count of felony perjury. She's scheduled for an arraignment on May 14.
Attempts by The Associated Press to reach Smith by phone and email were unsuccessful on Wednesday.
Smith ran for the Assembly District 34 seat and won the Democratic primary, but she was disqualified when a judge ruled in October that she didn't meet the residency requirement.
Republican Assemblywoman Victoria Seaman won the seat in November and has since pushed for legislation that strengthens candidate residency requirements.
