The UNLV School of Music presents dozens of free classical music recitals and concerts every term. Most are by students, performing solo or in small groups. There are also performances by music faculty, guest artists, and visiting ensembles. Some things, such as their symphony orchestra and wind band concerts, have a small charge. Skye Canyon's Chalktober Fest on October 20 will have artists compete in the art competition, artwork in the vendor village, and a chance for you to make your own masterpieces in the freestyle chalk art area. Also, music, activities for the kids, food, and craft beer. It runs from 2 to 6.
The Young Artists Orchestra will have a dance-themed concert, Danse Macabre, October 21 at the Windmill Library. Included: Khachaturian’s Sabre Dance, Brahms' Hungarian Dance no. 5, and Saint-Saen's Dance Macabre.
The Japanese Festival Association of Nevada presents the Aki Matsuri Performer Showcase on October 21 at 2 pm at the Clark County Library. This event will have performers from Japan featured at this year's Aki Matsuri festival and by Las Vegas Kaminari Taiko.
Sin City Opera presents "A Night with the Flying Dutchman" October 25 at 7 p.m. and the 28th at 2 p.m. in the Charleston Heights Arts Center. It's a synoptic, multi-media, operatic production with a 14-piece orchestra.
