NBC and Telemundo owned TV stations are teaming up with hundreds of animal shelters across the country August 18 for Clear the Shelters, a nationwide pet adoption drive. The Animal Foundation in Las Vegas and the City of Henderson Animal Care and Control shelter are participating.

The Animal Foundation in Las Vegas is in desperate need of sheets, blankets, towels and such to use for bedding for their cats and dogs. Gently used or new items can be dropped at the shelter every day between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. They would also like to connect with housekeeping departments for regular pickups of donated items.
The Butterfly Habitat at the Springs Preserve lets you see a good mix of butterflies flying around and interacting with the plants they need and which need them as pollinators. You might learn something, sure, but really just seeing the butterflies is enough of a reason to go. Admission to the Butterfly Habitat is $2 for members, $3 for non-members.
The Wetlands Park in Las Vegas has guided walks, talks, and programs every month. Some require advance registration. April 28 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.: BioBlitz, a fun day of science in the park! Identify plants and animals with the help of expert scientists and naturalists. All observations are entered into a global database, iNaturalist.
