It's National Dog Week September 24-30, and the Animal Foundation is celebrating by offering half off the regular $50 fee on all dogs six months and older. The $25 dog adoptions through the 30th will include spay/neuter surgery, microchipping and shots. A city or government fee to $10 may apply, depending on where you live.

The Nevada State Museum in Las Vegas presenta a new exhibition celebrating the extraordinary artistry of costume designer Pete Menefee through December 31. A multiple Emmy-Award-winning costume designer, he is famous for his work with musical superstars, variety productions, and Nevada’s costume-spectacular stage shows. The Butterfly Habitat at the Springs Preserve will be open September 23 thru November 19, weather permitting. The habitat contains many species of butterflies and the plants that sustain them. You'll emerge with a better understanding of the environment needed for the survival of these spectacular insects.
Clark County Wetlands Park has two more Sunday morning nature walks in September:discovering hidden places of the preserve on the 23rd and looking for patterns in nature on the 30th. They run from 9 to 11 a.m. and are for ages 10 and up. Must register in advance.

The Rape Crisis Center in Las Vegas uses male and female volunteers, ages 21 and over, to assist sexual assault victims. Volunteers assist the staff of the center by answering crisis calls around the clock, making referrals for victims and others who are seeking assistance, and more.
The Southern Nevada Rock Art Association meets on the fourth Monday of every month, starting at 6:30 p.m., in the REI store in Boca Park. Admission is free and anyone interested in rock art is invited to attend. There's usually a program on rock art and/or archeology, most often local or regional.
