"Mountain Picassos: Basque Arborglyphs of the Great Basin" will be on display at Nevada State College through July 6. It has photos of 26 Basque tree carvings (arborglyphs), text panels, contextual photographs, and streaming video. There will be a reception (noon to 1:00) and talk by Jean Earl (1:00 to 2:00) on June 20.
Local artist Robert Belliveau used a polarizing microscope and photographed microscopic crystals that formed in juices squeezed from fruits and vegetables. The crystals self-organized into gorgeous, amazing, abstract shapes.
Art inspired by Gold Butte National Monument, Tule Springs Fossil Beds National Monument and Basin and Range National Monument--Nevada's three National Monuments--will be shown through June 23 in the Sahara West Library. Included: paintings, wall murals, photographs, and sculptures.
The Southern Nevada Rock Art Association meets on the fourth Monday of every month, starting at 6:30 p.m., in the REI store in Boca Park. Admission is free and anyone interested in rock art is invited to attend. There's usually a program on rock art and/or archeology, most often local or regional.
