The Animal Foundation's Fast and Furriest 5k run and festival will be held November 17 at Sunset Park. You can participate and fundraise as part of a team or as an individual. You can also race virtually. The festival will have fun activities for people and pooches, vendors, food trucks, and more.
Maddie's Pet Project in Nevada will pay the adoption fee when you adopt a dog or cat at locations throughout Nevada November 16 and 17. The goal: forever homes for the holidays! There are participating shelters and rescue groups in Las Vegas, Henderson, North Las Vegas, Mesquite, Carson City, Reno, Ely....and many other locations. Many participants have lists of available animals.
Clark County Wetlands Park has guided walks, talks, and programs every month. Some require advance registration. Quite a few are for kids, such as Nature Tales, which includes a story and a craft. Guided walks are for ages 10 and over. Also, art classes for all ages.
The Butterfly Habitat at the Springs Preserve lets you see a good mix of butterflies flying around and interacting with the plants they need and which need them as pollinators. You might learn something, sure, but really just seeing the butterflies is enough of a reason to go. Admission to the Butterfly Habitat is $2 for members, $3 for non-members.
Henderson Libraries’ Around the World festival is back with fall fun! Cultural demonstrations, festive performances, and other activities allow you to explore cultures from around the world. Lots of Mexico-themed events in November (think Day of the Dead), plus Italy, India, and our own Southern Paiutes.

As the world celebrates the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day (which ended World War I), the Nevada State Museum and the Springs Preserve mark the occasion with their first joint exhibition. The exhibit explores what led to the war, and Nevada’s contributions to the war both domestically and abroad.
The Animal Foundation in Las Vegas is in desperate need of sheets, blankets, towels and such to use for bedding for their cats and dogs. Gently used or new items can be dropped at the shelter every day between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. They would also like to connect with housekeeping departments for regular pickups of donated items.

Girls on the Run Las Vegas will hold their seasonal 5K run, the Gingerbread Dash 5K, December 1 at Sunset Park. The race will be led by Las Vegas’ fastest distance runner, Christina Vergara Aleshire, who will be dressed in a gingerbread woman costume.
