The 5-year-old boy is slowly turning blue in his hospital bed. Carolyn Yucha enters the room and takes his hand into hers.

The child blinks. Yucha, Dean of the UNLV nursing school, leans in and asks, in that subdued singsong reserved for sick children, "How are you feeling today?"

His chest rises and falls. His blue face suggests cyanosis deoxygenated blood. He tells Yucha his head hurts. She touches his forehead.
