About Nevada Public Radio

Nevada Public Radio is NPR in Las Vegas. A growing audience relies on our broadcast, print and digital distribution channels for a unique mix of local, national, and international news; entertainment and cultural content.

Our Mission

Nevada Public Radio will enhance the quality of life and foster civic engagement by informing, educating and inspiring our growing audiences.

Our Vision

Nevada Public Radio will be recognized as the leading independent source of information and cultural expression and a catalyst for civic engagement.

Members are at the heart of public radio. Nevada Public Radio’s activities are supported by this base of annual individual giving along with revenue from broadcast and online sponsorship, also print advertising. NVPR is the recipient of private foundation donations and other grant revenue including the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. See our annual report and other public documents.

Nevada Public Radio (NVPR) was established in 1975 as an independent, not-for-profit, public benefit corporation. NVPR signed on the air in 1980 with one station serving the Las Vegas area as Nevada's first National Public Radio (NPR) affiliate station. For nearly four decades, NVPR has remained true to its mission to enhance the quality of life and foster civic engagement by informing, educating and inspiring a growing audience through public media – including content on air, in print and online.

Our broadcast network includes two FM stations serving the Las Vegas metropolitan area - News 88.9 KNPR and Classical KCNV 89.7. With a total of seven FM stations, 11 translator stations and associated HD digital channels, NVPR now serves more than 2.7-million people. NVPR is the publisher of the award-winning Desert Companion magazine and the producer of KNPR’s State of Nevada.

In 2019, NVPR was awarded a challenge grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities for a facilities upgrade project. This challenge grant will support a complete upgrade of our broadcast studio facilities, as well as transmitters throughout our network.
