Americans for Tax Reform has long pushed conservative lawmakers to promise that they will never raise taxes. In the wake of the 2012 election and the need for a deal to avert going over the fiscal cliff, some lawmakers are now backing off their promises. And Republican leaders in the state legislature have already conceded that $620 million worth of taxes due to sunset will have to be extended for another two years. So what is the future of the tax pledge in Nevada?

    COMMENTS:
Tax-cutters need to understand the "work ethic": if you want more money you earn it, you don't get a handout called a tax cut. America was strongest under Eisenhower, with a top tax bracket of 91%. While a student at UNLV, I had a stroke. After learning to walk & talk again, I got a masters degree in math. Since businessmen wouldn't hire the handicapped, I was an Air Force computer programmer for 22 years (protecting them). I don't accept tax cuts because I love my country more than money.

The problem in Carson City is purely one of spending, for as recently as a decade ago our budget was a tiny fraction of what it is today. Further, most tax money is either spent inefficiently, on bureaucracy, on things that don't really need to be done, or is given to people who didn't earn it; these are all unproductive endeavors which, given time, will only impoverish us. And the other edge of that sword is that taxes are money taken from individuals who would otherwise spend or invest it, both of which are productive endeavors which, given time, will only raise our standard of living. Bottom line, taxes are almost always BAD!

What is wrong with supporting the community with what it needs? It needs taxes? Raise taxes. It's simple. Tell Rover to roll over.
