The 2012 National Beard and Moustache Championship happened this weekend at the Clark County amphitheater. Beard growers and enthusiasts from all over the world gathered in Las Vegas to celebrate facial hair. Why do some people get so passionate about beards and moustaches? And why isn't facial hair more mainstream?

I like clean shaven men with neat haircuts and clean faces. Its a matter of laziness with men and I see them do it when their relationships are having trouble. Maybe its a form of denial and hiding.

You'd be amazed at how much more time and effort goes into maintaining and styling facial hair. Your allowed your personal preferences, but your views on the psychology behind facial hair is way off.

Dear Mary, You couldn't be more wrong. Facial hair is glorious. Your argument is akin to saying that women with long hair are hiding their necks. I'm friends with many a bearded man and let me say that, almost universally, they are kind, open, and accepting. Maintaining glorious facial hair takes effort. A beard is not a sign of laziness. It's a sign of masculinity.
