Dale Erquiaga On Common Core
Dale Erquiaga On Common Core

AIR DATE: April 4, 2014

When Dale Erquiaga was appointed to Nevada’s Superintendent of Public Instruction, one of the first decisions he made was to change the way student are tested in the state.

And he decided to opt into a federal system called Common Core—a system of proficiency exams that check a student’s understanding of reading and math.

Nationally, proponents of Common Core Standards say is the best way to test students.

Critics say it’s just perpetuating a public education system that teaches more and more to a test, at the expense of other important school experiences.
