One Incident, Two Emergency Vehicles
One Incident, Two Emergency Vehicles

Listen
AIR DATE: March 28, 2014

It’s one of the most common sights in Las Vegas – you’re driving down the road, then you have to pull over for an ambulance rushing to an emergency. Or maybe a fire truck. Or maybe even both.

For years, emergency services were split between the Las Vegas Fire Department and a private ambulance service, American Medical Response.

Both organizations get the emergency dispatch call and whoever gets there first takes the patient to the hospital. And if you haven’t seen it before, it happens quite often --- that two emergency vehicles will show up to one incident.

But recently the City of Las Vegas Fire Chief William McDonald has says the fire department can manage to take on more patients. So why is the city making these changes?
