Is A Shrinking Nellis A 'Win-Win?'
Is A Shrinking Nellis A 'Win-Win?'

Listen
AIR DATE: March 13, 2014

Nellis Commander Col. Barry Cornish will speak at the Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance breakfast this Thursday. Cornish will lay out his vision for what he calls “the region’s hidden workforce.”

That workforce just got a whole lot more visible this week after Cornish (re)announced 1,000 jobs would be lost at Nellis the next few years.

"It’s important to note that we’re trying to take these cuts through voluntary means first, and then if we have to, through involuntary means of reducing the size of the Air Force," Cornish told the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

The Air Force is hoping some 400 service members will take voluntary buy-outs. And Cornish went on to say that this could be a “win-win” for the Southern Nevada economy, as a flood of high tech workers will enter the employment pool.
