Thousands Cast Ballots In Early Voting

Early voting for the primary election began over the weekend, with nearly 15,000 Southern Nevadans casting their ballots.

“It was actually a very good weekend,” said Clark County Registrar of Voters Joe P. Gloria, “In fact two of three days over the past weekend we received the largest number of voters in a primary election for a presidential year than we’ve ever had, going back to 2000.”

He said of the nearly 15,000 voters who cast ballots 7,730 were Democrats, 1,244 were non-partisan and 5,435 Republicans.

Gloria couldn't say how many people were going to come out and vote in the primary, but he reminded voters that if they don't vote, they're losing their voice.

“We hope as many people who wish to take part in the process come out to vote. And when they don’t, they lose their voice in the community.”

Temporary polling places have been set up around the valley, and early voting continues until June 10. Those who miss out can still vote on June 14, primary day.

The deadline to register to vote by mail for the November election is Oct. 8. For in person and online registeration, the deadline is Oct. 18.
