The Rise And Fall Of Casino Bands

Book Cover/Omega Clay

There was a time in Las Vegas when it was the norm for hotel-casinos on the Las Vegas Strip to employ house bands.

It was hard work and long hours, but it was a gig musicians could rely on.

Janis McKay has written about this era in her new book, “Played Out On The Strip: The Rise And Fall Of Las Vegas Casino Bands"

McKay also teaches music at the UNLV, and is the principal bassoon player with the Las Vegas Philharmonic Orchestra
