Las Vegans and Californians alike have been waiting years for another travel option that will save long wait times at the airport or a potential disaster on Interstate 15.
Five years ago, owners of the X Train announced they would begin working on a route between the Fullerton Transportation Center in Orange County and the downtown Plaza in Las Vegas.
They began collaboration efforts with UNLV engineering students to develop a route on existing tracks. A low-speed train ride would take about 6 hours, but would offer amenities such as food and beverage service, hence the nickname of being the "party train."
Would-be train passengers got a glimmer of hope this month when X Train announced on its Facebook page that rides will be offered on New Years Eve, and tickets will become available in September.
Those following the issue have reason to be skeptical. No official statements have been released from the company, and this isn't the first time rumors of tickets being sold have circulated on social media.
X Train declined to comment on this story.
