Could North Las Vegas be home to a new electric car factory?
The electric car startup Faraday Future is reportedly considering the Apex industrial park as its home for a new factory.
Conor Shine from the Las Vegas Sun wrote a story about the potential deal.
He told KNPR's State of Nevada that the announcement from Faraday Future was really the first time anyone heard about the firm that is headquartered in California.
The company's plan is ambitious. It includes putting electric cars into garages by 2017.
Shine said the area where a factory would be built, if Nevada is chosen, would be at "largest untapped room we have in the valley for industrial development."
Apex offers 7,000 acres of land for industrial use. A car company factory there could be the spark needed not just for the industrial park but for all of North Las Vegas.
"For North Las Vegas, this company is the start of what they see is the future of Apex," Shine said, "And as that city comes out of the recession and kind of looks to remake itself, it's really banking on stuff happening out there."
Shine also believes tax breaks similar to those given to Tesla for its factory in Northern Nevada would "be part of the discussion" for Faraday Future's effort in Southern Nevada.
