Pahrump Assemblyman James Oscarson Explains His Budget Vote

Nevada State Legislature

After voting in favor of the governor’s tax proposal, Republican Pahrump Assemblyman James Oscarman finds himself in an unusual position.

He and Governor Brian Sandoval have lost the support of the Nye County Republican Party.

In a statement, the Nye County Republican Party shunned Assembly James Oscarman and Governor Brian Sandoval, saying they have made themselves unwelcome as honorary members of the party’s central committee.

"Certainly they have issues with me," Oscarson told KNPR's State of Nevada.

Oscarson said the county party had not given him a chance to explain their opposition to his vote before publicly criticizing him.

"They don't have to agree with me, but let's at least have a dialogue and an opportunity to discuss it," he said.
