Nevada Jobless Rate Increases For The First Time In A Year

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Nevada's unemployment rate rose in January, the first month-over-month increase in at least a year.

The state's Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation reported Thursday that Nevada's jobless rate rose to a seasonally adjusted 7.1 percent in January.

A state spokeswoman said the latest number amounts to a slight increase from December's revised rate, which was 7.0 percent.

It was also the first month-over-month increase in at least a year.

State officials acknowledged the increase but said in a statement that the overall numbers still point to consistent improvement in the job market.

The unemployment rate dipped each month in 2014.

January 2014's 8.5 percent unemployment rate is 1.4 percent higher than the jobless rate in January 2015.

Las Vegas, Reno and Carson City metropolitan regions also reported year-over-year decreases.
