The mayor of Ely decided that half a million dollars was enough, and vetoed a proposal to spend more than that on a new city hall.
The Ely Times reports that Mayor Melody Van Camp issued her first-ever veto last week to block City Council approval for spending more than $500,000 the originally approved.
Van Camp previously supported the plan to buy and renovate a former unemployment office on Campton Street.

She says she changed her mind after inspections revealed that the cost could be much higher.
