Utah Senate Approves Golden Retriever As State Pet

The Utah Senate has approved a bill proposed by a fourth-grade class that would honor the golden retriever as the state pet.

Senators voted 15-12 on Tuesday to approve the bill. It must now be approved by the House.

South Jordan Daybreak Elementary students discovered that the golden retriever was the most popular pet in Utah during a research assignment. Students then prepared a list of reasons why the dog should be recognized as the state's domestic animal and brought it to their state representative.
