Nevada Bill Would Make 'Revenge Porn' A Crime

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada lawmakers are considering a bill that would make it a crime to distribute "revenge porn."

The Assembly Judiciary Committee held a hearing Friday to review AB49, which is sponsored by the attorney general's office.

Bill presenters say explicit photos are sometimes exchanged privately within a relationship, and then sent out widely after a break-up.

The measure would make it a category C felony if someone electronically distributes an intimate image of someone with the intent to harass, annoy or terrorize them.

It would exclude images in which the person isn't clearly identifiable, voluntarily exposed themselves in a public setting or is a public figure.

The bill would also toughen penalties for sexual crimes against children. Teachers could be prosecuted for a broader range of sexual crimes against students.
