Hackers Claim Burning Man Festival Tickets

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Burning Man festival officials are working with their online ticket provider to determine the size and scope of an alleged hack for event passes.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that starting last Wednesday, 80,000 people tried to get a $390 ticket to the massive, art free-for-all festival in a remote dry lake bed in the Black Rock Desert in Northern Nevada.

But only the first 20,000 people who clicked were guaranteed a pair of tickets with about three-quarters of would-be ticket buyers turned away. Somehow, about 200 people got to the front of the cyber line. The next day, all 40,000 available tickets were claimed.

Burning Man organizers confirmed they had been hacked and that the suspected parties would be stripped of their tickets. They are awaiting a full report with details of the hack from the ticket provider.
