Tree Trimmer Death In North Las Vegas 2nd In 3 Weeks

Authorities say a landscaper is dead after becoming trapped by palm fronds high up in a tree, in the second similar case within three weeks in North Las Vegas.

Fire Capt. Cedric Williams says firefighters from North Las Vegas and Las Vegas quickly reached the man trapped more than 25 feet up in a tree about 2 p.m. Sunday in a neighborhood near Owens Avenue and Pecos Road.

But Williams says he doesn't know how long the man was stuck in the tree before firefighters were called.

He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

A similar accident occurred Dec. 22, when 49-year-old Carlos Dye suffocated beneath cut palm fronds in a tree several blocks from where Sunday's incident occurred.

The Clark County coroner ruled Dye's death an accident.
