Plans For Solar Farm Rejected In Douglas County

Douglas County planning commissioners have denied plans for a 322-acre solar farm after a group of neighbors spoke against it.

Commissioners cited the county's master plan in taking the action on a 4-1 vote Tuesday, saying the project wouldn't be compatible with the neighborhood.

Gardnerville's Record-Courier reports Eon Corp. consultant Erec DeVost maintained the 7-foot-tall panels wouldn't affect residents' views of the Sierra Nevada and Pine Nut Mountains.

But neighbor Norm Denny disagreed, saying they would produce a glare. He was among nine East Valley Road residents who urged commissioners to deny the project.

Planning commissioner Kevin Servatius, the project's lone supporter, said if residents want to protect the view shed they should have to pay for it.

Project backers can appeal the vote to county commissioners.
