Sam Nazarian Gets Limited Gambling License

The nightlife mogul who opened the SLS Las Vegas hotel and casino on the Strip has won a gambling license from Nevada regulators after intense scrutiny into his past business dealings and drug use.

Sam Nazarian appeared before the Nevada Gaming Commission on Thursday. He said he was sorry for misleading state regulators about his past drug use and said he was seeking help from a Las Vegas doctor to determine if he has a substance abuse problem.

Commissioners say they are concerned about Nazarian's character and judgment regarding the drug use and his vulnerability to blackmail attempts over several years, but gave him a second chance.

Nazarian's limited license is only good for a year, doesn't allow him any connection to casino operations and requires regular random drug testing.
