UNLV Presidential Candidates Make Series Of Campus Visits

After a two-day adventure that saw the president of Georgia Regents University visiting the University of Nevada-Las Vegas campus and speaking with various groups, Ricardo Azziz wrapped up his trip to Las Vegas.

Azziz is one of three finalists to replace former UNLV President Neal Smatresk, who earlier this year left for the University of North Texas. Don Snyder, UNLV’s former Hotel College Dean, is serving as acting president until a new leader is named.

UNLV’s new president will be faced with several pressing issues. The university is striving to earn Tier One status, it wants to build a medical school as well as finance an on-campus stadium to house its underachieving football team.

A Nevada System of Higher Education search committee will meet Nov. 17 and 18 and decide whether to recommend one of the candidates to the full Board of Regents. The board could decide not to recommend any of the candidates and seek new ones instead.
