Early voting began Saturday, and the fate of the Nevada Margin Tax For Public Schools Initiative, or Margins Tax, will soon be decided at the close of Election Day.
Several groups have come together against the Margins Tax, spending about $2 million to defeat the measure on Ballot Question 3.
One Las Vegas political columnist has said it may just not be as bad as it's made out to seem. Steve Sebelius wrote in a Las Vegas Review-Journal article that the real reason those groups fear the margins tax is that they simply don’t want voters to have the power to decide. He maintains that although the bill isn't perfect, corporate interests will always be against further taxation. No matter what form it comes in, a taxation will be viewed as "deeply flawed."
