New Citizens Increasingly Identify With Third Parties

A growing number of San Diego voters are opting against joining the country’s major political parties. Those, of course, would be the Republican Party and the Democratic Party. But among newly nationalized citizens, one Third Party that’s growing faster than all the rest -- the American Independent Party.

The far-right party opposes same-sex marriage and immigration. And those who register voters worry that many new citizens may not understand that they are registering for a party, and not as unaffiliated, independent voters.
