Governor Brian Sandoval says that a flood control project will be built before winter to protect homes on Mount Charleston. The Governor made the announcement Monday in a Rainbow Canyon neighborhood hit by flash flooding during an intense July 28 thunderstorm. Ten homes, several roads and a water pipe were damaged by mud and debris washed from wildfire-scarred slopes on the mountain some 30 miles from downtown Las Vegas.
Damage was estimated at more than $1 million. Sandoval says work could begin within a few days.
