Former Elko DA Charged With Battery

Former Elko County District Attorney Gary Woodbury has been charged with battery in an alleged confrontation with sheriff's deputies providing security at last September's county fair. Two reserve deputies have said the Sept. 1 incident occurred when they were asking people to stop congregating on the grandstand walkway.

The officers claim Woodbury refused and subsequently pushed one of them. He allegedly swore at one and challenged them to arrest him. Undersheriff Clair Morris said he's not sure why it took so long to bring formal charges. Woodbury served as DA for 16 years before retiring in 2011.
