Building A Better School Board

In the wake of Pedro Martinez firing and subsequent reinstatement, the Washoe County school board has fielded criticism from stakeholders ranging from concerned parents to Nevada’s first lady.

Accused of, among other things, violating Nevada’s open meeting laws --  in this case at least, it looks like a school board failed to act in the best interests of the district. So much so that Assembly minority leader Pat Hickey has requested a bill that would change the make up of school boards in Nevada, so that a percentage of the board members are appointed.
