Attorney Points To Ferguson, Asks For Federal Investigation In Shooting

A Las Vegas attorney is invoking events in Ferguson, Missouri, in a call for federal prosecutors in Nevada to take over the investigation of the February slaying of a 20-year-old man by Bureau of Land Management rangers.

Jacob Hafter, representing the family of D'Andre Berghardt Jr., said Tuesday that Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson has the results of a police investigation but doesn't have jurisdiction because the case involves federal agents. Hafter says that in Missouri, a grand jury is reviewing the Aug. 9 shooting of an unarmed black teenager by a Ferguson police officer. Hafter says it's been six months in the Berghardt case, with no answers.

Berghardt was killed Feb. 14 after authorities say he made threats and tried to climb into a Nevada Highway Patrol vehicle.
